Pi Wallet에 왜 달러 가치가 표시되지 않을까?

많은 사람들이 이런 질문을 한다.

"거래소에서는 1년 넘게 Pi 가격이 표시되고 있는데, 왜 공식 Pi Wallet에는 내 Pi의 달러 가치가 나타나지 않을까?"

매우 합리적인 질문이다.

하지만 이 질문의 핵심은 현재 거래소에서 표시되는 가격이 실제 메인넷 Pi의 공식 시장가격이 아니라 IOU(채무증서) 가격이라는 점이다.

현재 일부 거래소에서 거래되는 Pi는 메인넷에서 자유롭게 입출금되는 실제 Pi가 아니라, 거래소 내부에서 거래되는 IOU(I'm Owe You) 형태의 가격이다.

즉, 실제 메인넷 Pi의 공식 시장가격을 의미하는 것은 아니다.

반면 Pi Wallet은 메인넷 블록체인에 존재하는 실제 Pi를 보관하고 전송하는 공식 지갑이다.

메타마스크(MetaMask), 트러스트월렛(Trust Wallet)과 같은 Web3 지갑은 여러 거래소의 실시간 가격 정보를 오라클(Oracle)이나 가격 피드를 통해 받아 자산의 법정화폐 가치를 표시한다.

하지만 Pi Network는 아직 메인넷 Pi의 공식 가격 피드(Price Feed) 를 제공하지 않고 있다.

그 이유는 여러 가지로 볼 수 있다.

따라서 Pi Wallet에 달러 가치가 표시되지 않는 것은 기술적인 문제가 아니라 정책적인 선택일 가능성이 높다.

만약 앞으로 Pi Core Team이 공식 가격 오라클이나 가격 피드를 제공한다면, Pi Wallet도 다른 Web3 지갑처럼 Pi의 법정화폐 가치를 표시할 수 있다.

결국 Pi Wallet에 가격이 보이지 않는다고 해서 Pi의 가치가 없다는 의미는 아니다.

현재 거래소에서 보이는 가격은 IOU 시장에서 형성된 참고 가격이며, Pi Wallet은 실제 메인넷 Pi를 관리하는 공식 지갑이다.

공식 지갑이 IOU 가격을 표시하지 않는 것은 오히려 공식 메인넷 경제와 IOU 시장을 명확히 구분하려는 설계로 해석할 수도 있다.

Why Doesn't the Pi Wallet Show a Dollar Value?

Many people ask a logical question:

"If Pi has had a price on exchanges for more than a year, why doesn't the official Pi Wallet display the USD value of my Pi?"

It is a fair question.

The key point is that the price currently displayed on exchanges is generally an IOU price, not the official market price of Mainnet Pi.

On several exchanges, what has been traded is an IOU (I Owe You) rather than freely transferable Mainnet Pi.

Therefore, those prices should not automatically be considered the official market value of Mainnet Pi.

The official Pi Wallet serves a different purpose. It is designed to securely store and transfer real Pi on the Mainnet blockchain.

Web3 wallets such as MetaMask and Trust Wallet display the fiat value of assets by using official price feeds and market data from supported exchanges through price oracles.

Pi Network, however, has not yet provided an official price feed for Mainnet Pi.

There are several possible reasons:

• Most exchange prices are based on IOU trading rather than transferable Mainnet Pi. • Using IOU prices as the official value could create a disconnect between the exchange market and the real Mainnet economy. • Pi Network prioritizes building a utility-driven ecosystem over short-term speculation. • An official price is more likely to emerge after an open ecosystem with sufficient liquidity and real economic activity has matured.

For these reasons, the absence of a USD value in the Pi Wallet is likely a deliberate policy decision rather than a technical limitation.

If the Pi Core Team introduces an official price oracle or price feed in the future, the Pi Wallet could display fiat values just like other Web3 wallets.

Most importantly, the absence of a displayed price does not mean Pi has no value.

The prices currently shown on exchanges are generally based on the IOU market, while the official Pi Wallet manages real Mainnet Pi.

From this perspective, not displaying the IOU price in the official wallet may be an intentional way to distinguish the real Mainnet economy from the IOU market.
